Who we are
Dining Hall Chats ("we", "us", "our") is a student-built platform at dininghallchats.com that helps college students host and discover in-person conversations at campus dining halls. You can reach us at dininghallchats@gmail.com.
What information we collect
We only collect information you choose to give us directly. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no tracking.
When you host a chat:
- Your name or nickname (optional — shown publicly on your chat listing)
- Your conversation topic, dining hall, table location, date/time, seat count, and description
- The university and dining hall you select
When you RSVP to a chat:
- Your name or nickname (shown on the guest list for that chat)
When you add a school or dining hall:
- The school name, location, and dining hall details you submit
Automatically:
- Your "Interested" clicks are saved to your browser's local storage — this stays on your device only and is never sent to our servers
What we do not collect
We do not collect your email address, phone number, student ID, or any account credentials. We do not use cookies. We do not run ads. We do not collect IP addresses or build user profiles.
A note on names
Please use a first name or nickname only when hosting or RSVPing to a chat. Do not submit your full legal name, student ID, phone number, or any other sensitive personal information. All names entered are publicly visible to anyone visiting this site.
How your information is stored
Chat and school data is stored in a database provided by Supabase (supabase.com), a US-based database service. Data you submit — including your name if provided, your chat details, and your RSVP — is stored in Supabase's servers and is publicly readable by anyone using the site.
Who can see your information
All chats, RSVPs, and school data on this platform are publicly visible to any visitor of dininghallchats.com. There is no private mode. If you RSVP with your name, that name is visible to everyone who views that chat.
Third-party services
When you use the "Add Your School" feature, the school name you type is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim API to find its geographic coordinates. No other data is sent.
Children's privacy
This site is intended for college students (18 and older). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Your choices
Since we don't have accounts, we can't delete individual entries through an automated system. If you'd like a specific chat, RSVP, or piece of information removed, email us at dininghallchats@gmail.com and we'll remove it manually from the database.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
